Thinking about the adventures in my life, and then the obvious hit me, erasing all the other memories. The single most transformative decision I ever made was to try to get pregnant and give birth in my mid-40’s, perhaps transformative and expansive because it worked. I went after pregnancy with careful, calculated abandon, completely turning over the outcome, a most centering experience of cautious optimism.
Hmmm, I don’t mean “went after” the obvious way!!! 😉
My husband and i had been divorced for about 4 or 5 years and were living in the same town. He crashed, passed out at the wheel after too much alcohol, always a problem. He got very smashed up, broken jaw, knee and some more but he hit a Texas tourist head on who happened to be a surgeon and broke his arm. Ouch! When his wife called me to come to the hospital, I did. My visit with him was brief. He mumbled to me that he guessed it was time for him to die. What flew out of my mouth was, “No, you have been dead for 48 years, its time for you to WAKE UP!”
